The 2013 Preseason All-ACC Football Team was announced Wednesday afternoon, led, rather predictably, by reigning conference player of the year, Clemson QB Tajh Boyd.

Boyd, who was also voted Preseason ACC Player of the Year, led the conference in attempts, completions, yards per completion and passing touchdowns as a junior last season. This year he loses All-ACC wideout DeAndre Hopkins but retains Sammy Watkins—another member of the ACC Preseason First-Team—and harbors aspirations of a Heisman trophy.

Boyd got 59 of the 65 first-place votes, ceding two apiece to Virginia Tech's Logan Thomas, North Carolina's Bryn Renner and Miami's Stephen Morris.

Florida State led all ACC programs with six players on the All-ACC team—27 percent of the non-specialist players were Seminoles. Jimbo Fisher's team flashed perfect balance, too: Those six players included three on offense (OG Tre Jackson, C Bryan Stork and RB James Wilder Jr.), along with three more on defense (DT Timmy Jernigan, LB Christian Jones and DB Lamarcus Joyner).

Boyd, Watkins and Miami running back Duke Johnson were the top overall vote-getters, while Duke cornerback Ross Cockrell was tops among defenders. The Blue Devils senior leader received 48 first-place votes after recording 71 tackles and five interceptions as a junior.

Twelve of the 14 ACC members placed at least one player on the first team. Only North Carolina State and ACC-newcomer Syracuse were left off.

But as respective coaches Dave Doeren and Scott Shafer are sure to tell their teams: that's why they don't play games in July.
